Season 2027

BIOCORE

Pre-season is underway. Students are training, prototyping and running design reviews ahead of the January kickoff, when FIRST reveals the new game and the eight-week build clock starts.

  • Pre-season training for the newest group of students
  • Design reviews run by students, with mentors as coaches
  • Weekly build blogs published through the season

How a season runs

One year, five phases

  1. Autumn

    Pre-season

New students train in design, build, electrical, code and fabrication. Returning leads prototype mechanisms and rebuild the shop.

  2. January

    Kickoff

FIRST reveals the game. The whole team reads the manual, scores the strategy, and picks what the robot has to be good at.

  3. Eight weeks

    Build season

Design reviews, CAD, fabrication, wiring and code, all at once. Sixteen-plus hours a week per student, and a weekly blog documenting it.

  4. Feb to April

    Competition

District events and regionals, then the district championship if we qualify. 3 vs 3, all weekend.

  5. Spring onward

    Off-season

Fix what broke, run off-season events like Sunset Showdown, and start teaching the next group.

Last season

2026 REBUILT — Orion

Orion picked balls off the floor and shot them accurately into a target. Antares competed at the Silicon Valley and East Bay district events and reached deep into the playoffs at both.

  • Won the Imagery Award and the Autonomous Award in district play
  • Qualified for the Northern California District Championship and played into the playoffs there
  • An unreliable intake at the District Championship sent the team back to the drawing board
  • The redesigned intake carried the team to semifinals at Sunset Showdown
